Pre-registration on or before October 1, 2008             Submission of abstract for paper presentation deadline: September 15, 2008

The Philippine Society for Microbiology, Inc. (PSM) – Visayas Regional Chapter will hold its 16th Annual Meeting and Regional Scientific Convention on 16-17 October 2008 at the Mambukal Resort,  Murcia, Negros Occidental. This year’s convention has the theme, “Microbes Unlimited... Making Lives Better.”

Objectives:

i) To promote scientific knowledge of basic and applied microbiology and biotechnology;

ii) To stimulate scientific investigations and advancement in the frontiers of microbiology and related fields;

iii) To contribute to the development of education in microbiology.

VENUE

The Mambukal Resort in Murcia, Negros Occidental is the venue of this year's PSM Visayas Regional Convention. This resort lies 1,200 feet above sea level on the foot of Kanlaon Volcano and spread over 23.6 hectares. The famous seven falls, swimming pools, boating lagoons and hot sulfur springs are some of the its major tourist spots.  MASSKARA FESTIVAL
After the convention on October 18, participants can witness and experience the colorful and musical celebration of Masskara festival, Bacolod's biggest annual event. In this festivity, there will be Mardi Gras-like parade that features masked and costumed street dancers with fairs and carnivals.

CALL FOR PAPERS
(for oral and poster presentation)

The main focus is Microbiology dealing on Basic, Agricultural, Veterinary, Environmental, Industrial, Education, Food, Medical or Aquatic research. Papers for oral/poster presentation should be unpublished or has not been presented in national or international meetings, with at least one PSM
member as author.

Submit abstracts (200-350 words) to the convention Secretariat on or before 15 September 2008 by electronic mail using Microsoft Word program to Dr. Rolando Pakingking <rpakingking@seafdec.org.ph>. The Secretariat will review submitted abstracts and authors will be advised acceptance for oral/poster presentation on 27 September 2008.
